Start a new tradition with people you love
A classic hygge theme is togetherness and the social part of being comfortable and at ease. We identify ourselves with different ways of living, our family, and friends, our co-workers or maybe with people that share the same beliefs that we have.
When my grandparents passed away, it became very clear to many of us in the family that they had played such an important role in keeping the family together. With many aunts, uncles and cousins it was really hard to get the time and the opportunity to meet everyone on a regular basis. We used to see each other on different occasions, but without the grandparents home as a central place to meet it became difficult to catch up with all the family members even though we generally care a lot about each other.
Old traditions vanished and it was time to find out what to do next, if the family ties should be mainted. A couple of cousins came up with the idea to create a new tradition that involved several hygge activities during for an entire weekend every Autumn. So for the past years everyone that have had the possibility and time have joined the family reunion weekend in a beautiful place next to the sea. We cook together, enjoy several meals together, the kids get a chance to play together for two days in a row and the dary ones go for a morning swim in the cold sea before breakfast Sunday morning.
So a rather sad situation has been turned into new great moments.
This idea could definately be simplfied for any situation where people wish to connect and feel comfortable. What about organizing a game night? Or renting a cabin with your friends at New Years? Running a marathon together? Or a monthly date night with your partner?
Any purposeful activity that unites you with the people that you care about will strengthen your bonds over time. Hygge is making the most of the moment and it's definately ok to plan ah bit ahead of time to make the magic happen.
